Tinubu Presents ₦47.96 Trillion 2025 Budget to National Assembly

President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the National Assembly to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session. He was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima. Prior to the President’s entrance, top officials, including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, and various ministers, were already present.

During the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio addressed the gathering, stating that the state in Nigeria is under the influence of Boko Haram, a situation he attributed to the leadership of the President. Akpabio emphasized that the Senate will not allow reforms to be undermined and declared that the 2025 budget has been increased by 50%. He also announced the extension of the 2024 budget to June 2025, which will soon be presented.

Akpabio urged President Tinubu to ensure his ministers honor all invitations from the National Assembly, warning that the legislature would use its powers against any official who disregards such invitations.

As President Tinubu began his address at 12:41 PM, a heavy security presence was visible around the National Assembly complex, with reinforcements from various security agencies ensuring tight control. The presentation was also marked by strict access restrictions: all non-essential staff and visitors were instructed to stay away, while only essential personnel and accredited staff members were allowed in. Additionally, businesses in the vicinity, including banks and food vendors, were closed for the day.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had previously approved an estimated ₦47.96 trillion expenditure for the 2025 fiscal year. Senate President Godswill Akpabio is presiding over the session, alongside the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.
