2027 Elections: INEC Urges Staff to Improve Service

INEC calls for professionalism, accountability and improved voter services as preparations intensify for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged its staff to improve service delivery, demonstrate professionalism and strengthen public confidence ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The call was made during the Commission’s 2026 Customer Service Week celebration held on Friday, October 9, at its headquarters in Abuja, under the theme “Going the Extra Mile.”

Speaking on behalf of INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, National Commissioner Professor Rhoda Gumus emphasised the importance of accountability, empathy and prompt responses to citizens’ needs.

She explained that every staff member represents the Commission and plays a significant role in shaping public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

INEC Demands Better Service Ahead of 2027 Elections

Professor Gumus urged electoral officials to take responsibility for their assignments, respond promptly to complaints and provide practical solutions to challenges affecting voters.

She stressed that excellent customer service must become a permanent institutional culture rather than an activity limited to Customer Service Week.

According to the Commission, interactions between its personnel, voters and other stakeholders directly influence public trust in election administration.

Staff were also encouraged to demonstrate transparency, integrity and dedication when discharging their responsibilities.

The directive comes as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, including the display of voters’ registers and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The Commission commenced the display of preliminary voter registers on October 9, allowing eligible voters to verify their details and raise objections where necessary.

The exercise is scheduled to run until October 15, 2026, as part of efforts to ensure accurate voter records ahead of the elections.

INEC maintained that effective service delivery remains essential to ensuring that eligible Nigerians can access electoral services without unnecessary difficulties.

SERVICOM Urges INEC Staff to Prioritise Citizens

Also speaking at the event, Acting National Coordinator of the Presidency’s Service Compact with All Nigerians (SERVICOM), Mrs. Helen Lawal, described excellent customer service as a collective responsibility.

She encouraged officials to anticipate citizens’ needs, communicate clearly and treat complaints with seriousness.

Lawal also emphasised the need to ensure equal access to public services for older persons, persons with disabilities and residents of rural communities.

She commended INEC for organising the event and stressed that continuous training, staff welfare, transparency and collaboration remain essential to improved service delivery.

The celebration brought together INEC National Commissioners, management staff, directors, heads of departments and SERVICOM representatives.
