Police recover a motorcycle, axe and cutlass as investigations continue into alleged robberies targeting POS operators in Awka.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over his alleged involvement in a series of robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other residents in Awka.
The suspect was arrested on Friday, October 9, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation aimed at tackling motorcycle-assisted robberies across the state.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest in a statement, explaining that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend suspects involved in robbery incidents.
Anambra Police Recover Motorcycle and Weapons
According to Ikenga, police operatives recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.

The police believe the recovered items may be relevant to investigations into robberies targeting POS operators and other unsuspecting victims.
Authorities have not disclosed the number of robbery incidents allegedly linked to the suspect or the value of property stolen.
Investigation Into POS Robberies Continues
The police spokesperson disclosed that Eleh remains in custody while investigators work to establish the extent of his alleged involvement and identify possible accomplices.
The command has not announced any formal charges against the suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that individuals found responsible for criminal offences face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Anambra Police Urge POS Operators to Stay Vigilant
The police have advised POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners to remain security-conscious and report suspicious movements or activities.
Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The command said further updates would be communicated as security operations and weekend patrols continue across the state.
