Exploring Milliken Hill Road Project Ngwo, Enugu State

0

The Milliken Hill road, Ngwo, Enugu, is an ancient, historic and undulating road, modernized with streetlights and other safety measures by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration.

After decades of neglect, it now showcases its potentials as a tourist attraction and the state’s natural roller coaster, which now serves as an alternative gateway into the city of Enugu, from Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.

History has it that in 1908, a British expedition on its way to the middle belt from Awka, sighted the hill at Enugu Ngwo and reported back to Lagos.

Interest in the mineral potential of the hill compelled the colonial government to send a team of mining engineers to the place in 1909 to prospect for silver, but the team struck coal instead.

The Europeans settled at Ngwo on the top of the hill now called “Hilltop”. The 4.8km long Milliken Hill Road was constructed because of coal discovery on the hill, and it was named after the head engineer who designed the road.

Milliken hill is in Ngwo a village on the outskirt of Enugu City, they are 100 meters above sea level, offering a beautiful standpoint for a panoramic view of Enugu metropolis, especially at dawn and dusk.

The road winds through the foot of the hill bounded by a deep gully. Underneath the hills are relics of coal mines and its beautiful tunnels. Beneath the Milken hills is the Iva valley.

The hills are good for mountaineering, however, drivers are advised to drive slowly with caution through the meandering roads.

Manchester United’s Old Trafford May Host Tyson Fury Vs Anthony Joshua Fight

2

According to Manchester Evening News, the anticipated Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua boxing bout is set to take place before the end of 2022 and the Gypsy King has presented a number of venues to host the fight including Manchester United’s ground.

Tyson Fury has claimed to have booked Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground for a fight with Anthony Joshua in November.

It’s the latest claim from the Gypsy King who is looking to make a fight with Joshua happen this year after talks between the two camps have ramped up in the last 48 hours.

It emerged earlier on Wednesday that Joshua has reportedly accepted Fury’s offer for a fight with the WBC and Linear heavyweight titles on the line before the end of 2022.

Fury revealed on Tuesday that he has offered Joshua a 60:40 split  for their proposed ‘Battle of Britain’ fight – a bout which is long overdue with the two going back and forth for the better part of six years.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said the Principality Stadium in Cardiff is the only suitable venue in the UK to stage the fight at that time of year and a date of December 17 quickly emerged as the most likely option.

Reports claimed both camps agreed to that date for the all-British blockbuster clash but Fury has insisted that he’d like to fight before that.

Fury has now claimed that his camp have ‘officially’ booked Old Trafford on November 12 for the fight – but suggested two later dates at different venues are more likely to come to fruition.

United play Fulham away in the Premier League on November 12.

He said “I have seen that they are trying to wriggle a little bit with the date because we officially have Manchester United’s football ground booked for the 12th of November, however they are saying that is too short.

“So, what I have got that’s even better than that is Wembley Stadium booked for the 26th of November of this year. And if he doesn’t want to go to Wembley at the end of November, I even have a December date for him – the 3rd of December at Cardiff!

“So, take your little pick, dosser. There’s no wriggling!”

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said: “It will be in the UK and hopefully in November. That’s what we are looking at.

“How we make it work is that Tyson insists the fight is in the UK. So it’s got to work. He wants to fight here and deliver to the British fans.

BREAKING NEWS: Charles Is New King Of England

0

At the moment the Queen died, the throne passed immediately and without ceremony to the heir, Charles, the former Prince of Wales.

But there are a number of practical – and traditional – steps which he must go through to be crowned King.

What Will He Be Called?

One of his first acts is to decide whether to reign as King Charles III, or take another name.

For instance, his grandfather George VI’s first name was Albert, but he reigned using one of his middle names. Charles could choose from any of his four names – Charles Philip Arthur George.

He is not the only one who faces a change of title.

Although he is heir to the throne, Prince William will not automatically become Prince of Wales. However, he immediately inherits his father’s other title, Duke of Cornwall. His wife Catherine will be known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

There will also be a new title for Charles’ wife, whose full title will be Queen Consort – consort is the term used for the spouse of the monarch.

Formal Ceremonies

In the first 24 hours or so after his mother’s death, Charles will be officially proclaimed King. This happens at St James’s Palace in London, in front of a ceremonial body known as the Accession Council.

This is made up of members of the Privy Council – a group of senior MPs, past and present, and peers – as well as some senior civil servants, Commonwealth high commissioners, and the Lord Mayor of London.

More than 700 people are entitled in theory to attend, but given the short notice, the actual number is likely to be far fewer. At the last Accession Council in 1952, about 200 attended.

The King does not traditionally attend.

At the meeting, the death of Queen Elizabeth will be announced by the Lord President of the Privy Council (currently Penny Mordaunt MP), and a proclamation will be read aloud.

The wording of the proclamation can change, but it has traditionally been a series of prayers and pledges, commending the previous monarch and pledging support for the new one.

This proclamation is then signed by a number of senior figures including the prime minister, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the Lord Chancellor.

As with all these ceremonies, there will be attention paid to what might have been altered, added or updated, as a sign of a new era.

The King’s First Declaration

The Accession Council meets again – usually a day later – and this time, the King will attend, along with the Privy Council.

There is no “swearing in” at the start of a British monarch’s reign, in the style of some other heads of state, such as the President of the US. But there is a declaration made by the new King and – in line with a tradition dating from the early 18th Century – he will make an oath to preserve the Church of Scotland.

After a fanfare of trumpeters, a public proclamation will be made declaring Charles as the new King. This will be made from a balcony above Friary Court in St James’s Palace, by an official known as the Garter King of Arms.

He will call: “God save the King”, and for the first time since 1952, when the national anthem is played the words will be “God Save the King”.

Gun salutes will be fired in Hyde Park, the Tower of London and from naval ships, and the proclamation announcing Charles as the King will be read in in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.

The Coronation

The symbolic high point of the accession will be the coronation, when Charles is formally crowned. Because of the preparation needed, the coronation is not likely to happen very soon after Charles’s accession – Queen Elizabeth succeeded to the throne in February 1952, but was not crowned until June 1953.

For the past 900 years the coronation has been held in Westminster Abbey – William the Conqueror was the first monarch to be crowned there, and Charles will be the 40th.

It is an Anglican religious service, carried out by the Archbishop of Canterbury. At the climax of the ceremony, he will place St Edward’s Crown on Charles’s head – a solid gold crown, dating from 1661.

This is the centrepiece of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, and is only worn by the monarch at the moment of coronation itself (not least because it weighs a hefty 2.23kg).

Unlike royal weddings, the coronation is a state occasion – the government pays for it, and ultimately decides the guest list.

There will be music, readings and the ritual of anointing the new monarch, using oils of orange, roses, cinnamon, musk and ambergris.

The new King will take the coronation oath in front of the watching world. During this elaborate ceremony he will receive the orb and sceptre as symbols of his new role and the Archbishop of Canterbury will place the solid gold crown on his head.

Head Of The Commonwealth

Charles has become head of the Commonwealth, an association of 56 independent countries and 2.4 billion people. For 14 of these countries, as well as the UK, the King is head of state.

These countries, known as the Commonwealth realms, are: Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, St Christopher and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu.

Communipaw Terminal, USA, Built In Richardsonian Romanesque Architectural Style

0

Communipaw Terminal, officially known as the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal and sometimes simply as Jersey City Terminal, was the waterfront passenger terminal of the Class I railroad company Central Railroad of New Jersey, and it is located in the eastern part of Jersey City, the second-most populous city of the State of New Jersey, within the United States of America.

The name Communipaw comes from the Communpiaw Cove, as it was built alongside Communipaw Cove at the Upper New York Bay, making it instantly one of the most recognizable buildings in the area.

The building was constructed in 1889 which replaced an earlier one that was used from 1864 up to the construction of the marvel we can see today.

Being one of five passenger railroad terminals that lined the Hudson Waterfront during 19 and 20 centuries, the peak of operation was around 1929 when more than 65,000 passengers passed daily through the terminal, however, as it was open and welcoming passengers for almost 80 years, then due to long, slow decline in business, passenger service was diverted inland to Newark and on 30 April 1967, the passenger terminal ceased all passenger operations.

The main enormous building was built in a Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style with an intermodal facility that contains more than 10 platforms and several ferry slips.

When the incoming passengers would arrive, they would have walked to the railhead concourse and could either pass through its main waiting room, bypass it on either side and even take the stairs to get to the upper levels.

Being one of the major terminal complexes which dominated the western waterfront of the New York Harbor, it is something that could not be missed when passengers wanted to get to travel and get to other places.

Despite its closure in 1967, Communipaw Terminal was protected by the Central Railroad of New Jersey, until when it was officially abandoned at the beginning of the 1970s.

Later on, in 1975 became part of the National Register of Historic Places under #1513 which then allowed it to be preserved and protected as it deserves that.

After the renovation and incorporation into Liberty State Park, the terminal also was listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places, giving it even greater significance and making it even more popular among the people visiting the area.

Nowadays, there is a small museum that people can visit, learn more about the history behind, and within it’s the exhibition which is dedicated to the history of the area, in addition to interpretive programs and tours and ferry service to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

All in all, being one of the greater New Jersey symbols that most of the time gets overlooked, Communipaw Terminal is certainly a historic building that shall capture with its size the attention of the visitors, and the ticking clock in the central part is simply ongoing with the time counting from when this structure was filled with happy passengers, and now tells the story of those times.

Why Tyson Fury Disagrees With Anthony Joshua On December 17 Fight Date

0

The reason Tyson Fury would not be happy with a December 17 fight with Anthony Joshua has now been revealed with the Gypsy King hoping to hold the bout in November.

Fury and Joshua are now seemingly closing in on announcing a fight date, paving the way for the WBC Heavyweight World Champion to face his long-time British heavyweight rival.

The pair have remarkably never faced one another despite a two-fight deal having been agreed in 2020 before Fury was ordered to fight Deontay Wilder  in a trilogy fight by a US court.

This meant that last autumn Fury faced Wilder for a third time, claiming victory, while ‘AJ’ lost to Oleksandr Usyk in their first fight.

This year has seen circumstance make it appear as a fight could have been further away than ever, with Fury successfully defending his WBC belt and declaring that he would like to face Usyk in a unification bout in the wake of the Ukrainian’s win against Joshua last month.

.

But after being called out by Fury, Joshua has said that he will be reaady in December  for a potential fight. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed his fighter is eyeing a December 17 clash at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. However, Fury is unhappy with this.

He said: “I have Nov 26th at Wembley or Dec 3rd [at Principality]. One is 11 weeks, and one is 12 weeks. If a professional athlete who’s shredded all year round can’t get himself in shape in three months, there’s a problem.”

Now, it has been revealed that the reason why Fury wants an earlier fight is so he can pursue a fight with Usyk in the early months of 2023.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren says it is because Fury hopes to face Usyk in February or March and has set December 3 as the latest date he wants to fight this year.

Hearn said the Principality Stadium is the only suitable venue in the UK to stage the fight.

Chelsea Appoint Potter As New Manager To Take Over From Tuchel

Soccer Football – Premier League – West Ham United v Brighton & Hove Albion – London Stadium, London, Britain – August 21, 2022 Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter celebrates after the match Action

Chelsea have appointed Graham Potter as their new manager on a five-year contract, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion bosstaking over from the sacked Thomas Tuchel, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.

Chelsea dismissed Tuchel on Wednesday, a day after they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening match of the Champions League group stage.

The London club finished third in the Premier League last season but are sixth with 10 points this term after six games, having lost at Leeds United and Southampton.

“Chelsea is delighted to welcome Graham Potter as our new head coach, joining us on a five-year contract to bring his progressive football and innovative coaching to the club,” the club said in a statement.

Tuchel joined Chelsea after the sacking of Frank Lampard and helped the club win the Champions League in his first season. He also led them to the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles last season.

Potter takes over before their Premier League trip to Fulham on Saturday.

He had guided Brighton to fourth in the table this season with four wins, one defeat and a draw.

The 47-year-old was appointed by Brighton in May 2019 and has led the club to 15th, 16th and ninth-place finishes in his three seasons in charge. He managed Swansea City in the Championship before joining Brighton.
