OPINION: The Moment Of Truth – Chris Nwaokobia

0

The arrogance and the hypocrisy of a candidate. On the one hand he says religion does not matter. That competency and capacity is key.

Does competency not imply that he should know that his Party the APC is mirrored as a Muslim Party and seek to balance the Ticket?

Does capacity not imply that he should search out a competent Christian in the North to balance the Ticket?

The Muslim Ummah must MOVE against the desperate knowing that Leadership in Islam is for equity, justice and fairness.

Those who for political power seek to rekindle our fault lines. Those who for numbers ignore the need for brotherhood and inclusion will fail because Nigeria is bigger than an INDIVIDUAL’S LIFE TIME AMBITION.

Affliction will not prevail a second time. Now is the time to rebuild, re-fix, reshape and reset Nigeria.

A peaceful redemptive ballot based Peoples Revolution is ongoing, Compatriots.

God Bless Nigeria.

The Abia State Government has announced the immediate dissolution of the governing council of Abia State Polytechnic and suspension of the institution’s management.

The Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem said this in a statement on Thursday in Umuahia.

Elem said that the move was to reposition the polytechnic whose accreditation was withdrawn by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Tuesday.

“Following the recent action of the NBTE against Abia State Polytechnic Aba, the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor-Ikpeazu, appeals to our dear students of Abia poly and other well meaning Abians to remain calm.

“Government views the decision of the NBTE against the institution as very embarrassing and capable of destabilising the current peace and harmony existing in the state, as the fate of the students of the institution appears to be jeopardised by the said action.

“It must be placed on record that academic activities have been ongoing in the institution without interruptions

“The teachers and staff of Abia poly were not on strike and have remained committed to their duties,” he said.

Ezem said that the government had set up a team to work for the reaccreditation of the polytechnic within 30 days.

The team is headed by Prof. Ikechi Mgboji with Dr John Nwadioha, Mr. Jude Udeachara, Rev. Fr. Kelechi Anyanwu, Mrs Love Ezema and Mr Stanley Nwankpa, as members.

SUBEB Censure Burning of New Classroom Blocks In Cross River

0

Cross River Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has condemned the burning of a recently constructed nine-classroom block at St Joseph Primary School, Bansara, Ogoja Local Government Area.

Chairman of the state’s SUBEB, Stephen Odey, who made the condemnation in a statement on Tuesday in Calabar, described the act as nefarious, adding that the board would do everything within its power to fish out the culprits.

He said such actions had created a setback to the government’s efforts in tackling accommodation challenges facing schools in spite of the state’s lean resources.

“I am sad that despite all our efforts to make sure that basic education is given priority in Cross River, some people are still out to frustrate the good intentions of the government and SUBEB.

“The state government is spending huge resources, yet people are destroying school facilities and carting away equipment and learning materials.

“There have been reported cases of vandalism, stolen computers, books and other facilities in some schools across the state, including the man arrested for stealing roofing sheets in a primary school in Asu Egbe, Ikom, LGA,” he said.

The SUBEB boss reiterated the need for communities to complement government’s efforts by taking ownership of schools to guard against theft and vandalism.

He warned that communities that did not protect infrastructure, learning materials and equipment provided by government, would be blacklisted from future interventions.

The Cross River SUBEB has been going round the state to maintain infrastructure in schools in the 18 LGAs of the state.

Some time ago, a nine-classroom block in Ogoja was burnt and one suspect was arrested while investigation was still ongoing

0

Eminent panelists and speakers at the second in the series of “Let’s Talk About” Town Hall meeting which took place in Lagos Thursday July 21, were unanimous in this charge

The role of the church, Christians as well as their involvement in politics and governance took center stage at the luxurious and prestigious Waterfalls Events Center along Billings Way area of Ikeja, Lagos state capital.
