Republicans Back Trump’s Refusal To Concede, Supporters Say Truth Will Prevail

0

Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, slammed Democrats for expecting the president to quickly concede and said he had every right to pursue legal challenges.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the top Republican in Congress, threw his support behind President Trump in a sharply worded speech on the Senate floor. He declared that Trump was “100 percent within his rights” to turn to the legal system to challenge the outcome and hammered Democrats for expecting the president to concede.

President Donald Trump has yet to concede the race to his Democratic rival Joe Biden and is continuing to dispute the election results.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who said she was speaking in her private capacity as an advisor to the Trump campaign, told reporters: She cited more than 130 affidavits filed in Michigan alone, as an example of the irregularities.

She also said there were reports of thousands of votes cast in Nevada from people who were not eligible.

NNPC To Commence Oil Explorations In Lake Chad Basin

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced plans to commence oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin of Borno State Northern Nigeria.

According to NNPC, the commencement was facilitated with the restoration of relative peace in the basin by Nigerian Army.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timiprye Sylva, disclosed this, after meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, and Commander of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major-Gen. Ibrahim Yusuf, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

The NNPC has seen a lot of prospects in the Chad Basin to commence exploration and drilling activities. That is why the Corporation is collaborating with the Army to resume oil exploration.”

He said the collaboration will ensure that security is being provided for oil exploration and drilling activities to commence very soon in the Basin.

While commending the Army restore peace, Sylva said: “The Army has done a great job. They continue to perform in the Northeast. We wanted to commence exploration and drilling activities there, because we believe that the relative peace in this area is enough for us to continue drilling activities in the northeast.

He added “As you may well know, we have found oil in Gombe State, and we believe that there is a lot of oil to be found in Chad Basin.”

Former Central African Republic Leader, François Bozize to run in upcoming presidential election

0

The party of Francois Bozize, the Central African Republic’s ex-president who was toppled in a 2013 coup, has announced that the former president on Monday filed papers to stand in the country’s imminent presidential elections.

Despite the fact that the landlocked country has remained under the control of the armed group, the Seleka since his ousting, the vote is expected to go ahead on December 27.

They could threaten the security of the myriad candidates as well as voters in the predominantly Christian country. The 2013 coup sparked brutal inter-ethnic violence between the Seleka and so-called “anti-Balaka” self-defense forces, mainly Christian and animist.

Despite Bozize’s ousting in 2013, he has however remained highly influential and his affiliations with the anti-Balaka have given him a large electoral base which could possibly pose a threat to the current president, Faustine Archangel Touadera who was elected in 2016.

Placed under UN sanctions for his presumed role in the 2013-14 crisis, Bozize slipped home after seven years in exile in Uganda, making his first public appearance in December 2019. He announced his intention to run in July.

Voter Fraud Investigation: US Postal Worker Admits Making up Allegations of Ballot Tampering

0

A Pennsylvania postal worker whose claims have been cited by top Republicans as potential evidence of widespread voting irregularities admitted to U.S. Postal Service investigators that he fabricated the allegations, according to three officials briefed on the investigation and a statement from a House congressional committee.

Follow the latest on Election 2020
Richard Hopkins’s claim that a postmaster in Erie, Pa., instructed postal workers to backdate ballots mailed after Election Day was cited by Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) in a letter to the Justice Department calling for a federal investigation. Attorney General William P. Barr subsequently authorized federal prosecutors to open probes into credible allegations of voting irregularities and fraud before results are certified, a reversal of long-standing Justice Department policy.

But on Monday, Hopkins, 32, told investigators from the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General that the allegations were not true, and he signed an affidavit recanting his claims, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee tweeted late Tuesday that the “whistleblower completely RECANTED.”

Hopkins did not respond to messages from The Washington Post seeking comment through his social media accounts, family members and phone messages earlier this week. But in a YouTube video he posted Tuesday night, he denied recanting. “I’m here to say I did not recant my statements. That did not happen,” he said.

The reversal to investigators comes as Trump has refused to concede to President-elect Joe Biden (D), citing unproven allegations about widespread voter fraud in an attempt to swing the results in his favor. Republicans held up Hopkins’s claims as among the most credible because he signed an affidavit swearing that he overheard a supervisor instructing colleagues to backdate ballots mailed after Nov. 3.

The Trump campaign provided that affidavit to Graham, who in turn asked the Justice Department and FBI to launch an investigation.

The Trump campaign also cited reports of the allegation in a federal lawsuit filed Monday against Pennsylvania election officials that seeks to prevent them from certifying the states’ election results.

Tim Murtaugh, a Trump campaign spokesman, said Hopkins’s allegations are just a small part of the campaign’s assertions in the Pennsylvania lawsuit, adding, “We don’t know what kind of pressure he has been under since he publicly made those statements.”

The Justice Department and Graham did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.

The Erie postmaster, Rob Weisenbach, called the allegations “100% false” in a Facebook post and said they were made “by an employee that was recently disciplined multiple times.”

“The Erie Post Office did not back date any ballots,” Weisenbach wrote.

The Postal Service inspector general’s office informed members of Congress in a briefing on Tuesday that Hopkins had recanted his allegations, according to a congressional aide. The investigators first interviewed Hopkins on Friday, the aide said.

Hopkins’s allegations, without his name, were first aired last week by Project Veritas, an organization that uses deceptive tactics to expose what it says is bias and corruption in the mainstream media. Hopkins agreed to attach his name to the allegations late last week. He was instantly celebrated by Trump supporters.

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe on Saturday hailed Hopkins as “an American hero” on Twitter. A GoFundMe page created under Hopkins’s name had raised more than $136,000 by Tuesday evening, with donors praising him as a patriot and whistleblower. The fundraising page was removed by GoFundMe after this story was published Tuesday, a spokesman for the platform said.

“Your donations are going to help me in the case I am wrongfully terminated from my job or I am forced into resigning due to ostrizization [sic] by my co-workers,” the page states. “It will help me get a new start in a place I feel safe and help me with child support until I am able to get settled and get a job.”

JUST IN: Oyo College Of Education Shuts Down Indefinitely

0

Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate, has shut down indefinitely over the non-stop crisis between the Students Union of the institution and the management led by the Provost, Dr. Jospeh Adeagbo.

The Students Union’s President, Olaitan Muhammad, said the college had been shut down by the Governing Council.

Students were said to have embarked on protests over the alleged failure of the college to produce identity cards for students despite collecting money from them.

But the management of the school in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the college, Adeniyi Jolaoso, said academic and social activities were going on well at the college before the students suddenly embarked on a protest on November 5.

The management claimed in the statement that staff unions sponsored the students to cause catastrophe.

The management also debunked all allegations against it, the provost, and the DSA.

The statement read, “The college management wishes to assure that it charges one of the lowest school fees in the country, in consonance with the directive of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration and payment of all fees is made into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) of the Oyo State Government.

“So, there are no outrageous fees charged by the college. Any demand for any payment other than that into the Treasury Single Account should be reported immediately.

“Students are also encouraged to pick up their ID cards that have been lying down ready for collection at the Student Affairs office while those who are yet to undertake their photo capture for the student ID card should approach the schedule officer at the ICT and collect their ID card not later than one week after the capture.”

BREAKING: CBN accuses #EndSARS campaigners of terrorism

The Federal Government was able to freeze the accounts of 20 #EndSARS campaigners after telling a Federal High Court in Abuja that the funds in their accounts might have been linked to terrorist activities.

This is according to a written address in support of a motion ex parte filed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The CBN had in the second week of October frozen 20 accounts and thereafter approached the court to seek an ex parte order to freeze the accounts.

In the case with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1384/2020, filed before Justice A. R. Mohammed, the CBN, however, made no mention of the fact that the 20 accounts were owned by persons involved in the #EndSARS protests, but told the court that the funds might have emanated from terrorist activities.

The written address read in part, “My lord, the nature of the transactions undertaken through the defendants’ accounts are of suspected terrorism financing in contravention of Section 13(1)(a)and(b) of the Terrorism (Prevention)(Amendment) Act, 2013 and Regulation 31(2)(a)and (3)(b) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism Regulations, 2013.”

In a supporting affidavit deposed to by one Aondowase Jacob on behalf of the CBN, it was stated that the Head of the Economic Intelligence Unit of the Governor’s Department, CBN, Joseph Omayuku, had conducted an investigation on the accounts of the defendants and other individuals and entities held with certain banks in Nigeria.

According to the affidavit, the investigation showed that the owners of the accounts may have been involved in terrorist activities.

It added, “There is a grave allegation that the defendants are involved in suspected terrorism financing via their bank accounts in contravention of the provisions of extant laws and regulations. The aforesaid transactions undertaken by the defendants, using their bank accounts, can cause significant economic and security harm to the public and the Federal Republic of Nigeria if left unchecked.

“The applicant (CBN governor) is thus desirous to have the court empower him to direct the freezing of the 20 accounts listed on the annexure to this application and all other bank accounts held by the defendants.

“A freezing order of this honourable court in respect of the defendants’ accounts would also enable the investigation of the activities of the defendants to a logical conclusion with a view to reporting same to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.”

The apex bank said unless the order was granted, it would not be able to ensure that the money remained intact, while investigations were ongoing.

The 20 accounts frozen by the CBN are domiciled in Access Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Fidelity Bank, United Bank for Africa and Zenith Bank.

The accounts were said to have been flagged after they received money with the narration #EndSARS.

One of the frozen accounts, marked 0056412470 and domiciled in Access Bank, belongs to Bolatito Olorunrinu Oduala, an #EndSARS campaigner, who was appointed into the Lagos State judicial panel set up by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Security Measures: Senate seeks safety of judges, rejects N110bn budget for Judiciary

The Senate on Tuesday called for adequate security measures around Judges and Courts in the country to ensure their safety from spontaneous or premeditated attacks.

The red chamber also frowned on the N110bn budgetary estimates projected for the Judiciary in 2021.

The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters made the observations when its members engaged the Chief Registrars of all the courts on their 2021 budgetary proposals.

The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, said the recent attacks visited on the courts in the country by hoodlums were worrisome and condemnable.

He said such spontaneous or premeditated attacks were more or less potential assaults on Judges and Justices which must be nipped in the bud.

He said, “Worthy of note, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, is the unfortunate and unwarranted recent attack and vandalisation of the Court of Appeal archive office in the Lagos Division, as well as the Lagos State High Court Complex, located at Igbosere, which was set ablaze by hoodlums.

“This action is highly condemnable and a clarion call for provision of adequate security mechanisms, for the safety of Judges and the Courts, generally.”

He, however, added that the N110bn earmarked for the arm of government in the coming fiscal year was grossly inadequate to bring about the needed turnaround

“This committee will do all within its legislative powers to ensure that the funding of the Judiciary is improved upon for dispensation of justice in the country efficiently and appropriately, ” he stated.
