Osimhen Awaits Chelsea’s Offers Amid PSG Rumours

0

Super Eagles’ in-demand striker Victor Osimhen is reportedly  waiting for an offer  from  Chelsea  despite claims that  that the Napoli  has already  a deal for his move in the summer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Italian outlet La Repubblica, relayed by Calcio Napoli 24,  said yesterday  that   the 25-year-old has ended up in the middle of a battle between Chelsea and PSG for his signature.

The newspaper claimed that the French giants want to buy a centre-forward this year to cover for the loss of Kylian Mbappe and Osimhen is the man the man they have their eye on.

Contacts with Napoli have been underway for some time, with his asking price set at €120m, the valuation of his release clause.

Chelsea are only willing to pay willing to pay €100m so PSG could stump them to the signing by offering up that extra €20m and further contacts between them and Napoli are expected in the next few days to speed up the operation.

This, though, feels like a classic move from Napoli and Aurelio De Laurentiis to try and convince Chelsea to hurry up and pay more.

Yet TEAMtalk noted that Chelsea remains Osimhen’s  favoured destination due to his love of former Striker Didier Drogba and his desire to play in the Premier League.

Sources have informed TEAMtalk that “if Chelsea want Victor, he is there waiting but it is up to them.”

In a related development,  Italian Pink Paper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, equally revealed that star striker Osimhen wants to join Chelsea and the Blues can turn the striker’s dream into reality by paying a release clause of circa €120-130m.

10 Effective ways To Boost Your Mental Wellness

2

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, maintaining mental well-being can often feel like an uphill battle. From the pressures of work and relationships to the constant bombardment of information and stimuli, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and drained. However, just as we prioritize physical exercise to keep our bodies healthy, it’s crucial to engage in activities that promote mental wellness and strength.

Here are some activities that can help boost your mental wellness and fortify your mind against life’s challenges. Engaging in some or all of them will help boost or preserve your mental wellness.

1. Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation has gained widespread popularity in recent years, and for good reason. This ancient practice involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment, allowing you to cultivate a greater sense of awareness and clarity. Research has shown that regular meditation can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while improving focus, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. To start, set aside a few minutes each day to sit quietly, focus on your breath, and observe your thoughts and sensations without getting caught up in them.

2. Nurturing Mental Strength

Building mental strength isn’t just about enduring challenges; it’s about thriving despite them. It involves adopting specific habits and practices that empower individuals to navigate life’s obstacles with resilience and determination.

3. Cultivate Positivity

Developing a positive mindset is crucial for building mental strength. Instead of fixating on negatives, train yourself to focus on the silver linings in difficult situations. Regularly practicing gratitude can shift your perspective and improve your outlook on life. Positive thinking equips you with the optimism needed to confront challenges head-on.

4. Confront Your Fears

Mentally strong individuals confront their fears rather than avoiding them. Avoidance only reinforces anxiety, whereas facing fears head-on fosters resilience and confidence. Gradually exposing yourself to fear-inducing situations allows you to build the skills necessary to navigate challenges effectively. Over time, confronting fears becomes less daunting, and confidence in your ability to overcome obstacles grows.

5. Set Achievable Goals

Setting realistic goals is essential for building mental strength. Break down long-term objectives into smaller, manageable steps. This approach not only provides a sense of accomplishment but also maintains motivation. By setting achievable goals, you create a roadmap for success and progress steadily toward your aspirations.

6. Creative Expression

Expressing yourself creatively can be incredibly therapeutic and can provide an outlet for processing emotions and experiences. Whether it’s writing, painting, playing music, or dancing, engaging in creative activities allows you to tap into your innermost thoughts and feelings in a meaningful way. You don’t need to be an expert or produce masterpiece – the act of creation itself is what matters. Allow yourself to experiment, explore, and express yourself freely without judgment.

7. Prioritize Self-Care

Prioritizing self-care is essential for nurturing mental strength. Taking care of your physical and emotional well-being lays the foundation for resilience. Ensure you get enough sleep, maintain a balanced diet, and engage in regular exercise. Doing this alongside the practice of mindfulness or meditation will help manage stress and anxiety effectively.

8. Physical Exercise

The benefits of exercise extend far beyond physical health – it’s also a powerful tool for boosting mental wellness. Engaging in regular physical activity releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that act as natural mood lifters, and reduces levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Whether it’s going for a run, practicing yoga, or simply taking a brisk walk, find activities that you enjoy and make them a regular part of your routine. Not only will you feel better physically, but you’ll also experience greater mental clarity and resilience.

9. Social Connection

Human beings are inherently social creatures, and meaningful connections with others are essential for our mental and emotional well-being. Make time to nurture your relationships with friends, family, and loved ones, whether it’s through regular phone calls, meetups, or shared activities. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support when you need it. Remember, you’re not alone, and there’s strength in vulnerability and connection.

10. Lifelong Learning

Stimulating your mind through lifelong learning is a powerful way to keep your brain sharp and resilient. Whether you’re interested in exploring a new hobby, mastering a skill, or delving into a subject that fascinates you, challenging yourself intellectually can boost your confidence and sense of accomplishment. Take advantage of online courses, workshops, books, and other resources to expand your knowledge and keep your mind engaged and curious.

In conclusion, prioritizing your mental wellness is essential for leading a fulfilling and balanced life. By incorporating these activities into your routine, you can increase your mental strength, resilience, and overall well-being. Remember, mental wellness is a journey, not a destination, so be patient and compassionate with yourself as you navigate the ups and downs of life. With practice and persistence, you can cultivate a strong and resilient mind that can weather any storm.

Families To Pay More Transport For Special Needs Kids

Parents of teenagers with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are to be told to pay more for transport to college or sixth form.

Birmingham City Council has confirmed cuts to its special needs transport budget, with taxis and minibuses no longer set to be routinely offered to those aged 16 to 18 from September.

The council-funded services, mainly used to transport pupils to special needs schools miles away from their homes, will remain for younger children.

In an email to families, the local authority acknowledged the changes would be difficult for some families and said it had given as much notice as possible.

The cash-strapped council declared itself effectively bankrupt last September by issuing a section 114 notice, before signing off on a wave of devastating cuts to address a £300m budget deficit.

The cuts, which have attracted protests, include slashed funding for some of the city’s libraries.

And the Children’s Young People and Families department needs to find £51.5m savings in the next financial year.

Under the transport changes, support for 16 to 18-year-old’s will be provided through a personal transport budget (PTB) or a pass for use on public transport.

But families will be told to pay more, with their contribution deducted from the budget, increasing from £780 to £1,028 per academic year.

Low-income families will still pay £390 a year towards their travel arrangements.

KNUT Urges Case-Specific Reopening of Schools Citing Flood Risks in Kenya

0

The Kenya National Union of Primary Teachers (KNUT) has called for a case-by-case approach to reopening primary and secondary schools for the second term citing flooding risks.

Commenting on President William Ruto’s school reopening directive, KNUT Secretary General, Collins Oyuu said some schools are in a pathetic situation that will call for serious interventions.

Oyuu, who toured schools most impacted by floods in Nyando Sub County on Thursday said KNUT supports delayed re-opening in specific cases owing to the dire situation.

At Nyamasao Primary School, Oyuu said the condition cannot allow for learning purposes.

He said the Ministry must look into its infrastructure funding to offer assistance to schools.

Oyuu cast doubt on President Ruto’s directive for infrastructure support under the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) terming it inadequate.

Oyuu noted some schools are housing flood victims, with up to 3,000 families accommodated in existing classrooms.

KNUT’s appeal came even as the Ministry of Education mapped out schools in Tana River, Kisumu, and Homa Bay among institutions that will not reopen owing to continued flooding.

The union noted 90 per cent of schools were ready for reopening and that parents should prepare adequately to take learners back on May 13.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has insisted on negotiating the salary of its members with the Tinubu-led administration, thereby, rejecting the N35,000 wage award.

ASUU National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this in Ibadan at the inauguration of the secretariat of the University of Ibadan (UI) branch of ASUU.

Osodeke stated that the union had agreed that whatever was legally sent to members’ accounts should be spent but not to be taken as the negotiated salary.

He identified the renegotiation of the existing agreement, payment of withheld salaries, earned academic allowance and release of the Needs Assessment Funds as some of the pending issues with the Federal Government.

While commending the UI ASUU branch for the edifice it built using the expertise of its members, Osodeke decried the use of external or foreign consultants to handle projects in the country.

He said the government should rather hire experts within the country, especially from within Nigerian universities as consultants.

The Vice-Chancellor, UI, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership, Prof. Yemisi Bamgbose, had commended the union.

Adebowale said the secretariat would serve as a hub of intellectual discussion, collaboration and solidarity among the union members as it continues to strive for a better future for our universities and our nation.

The UI ASUU Chairman, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, said the secretariat was built without donations from external people or bodies.

He commended members of the union who gave in cash and kind to see to its completion.

Censors Board Warns Nollywood Filmmakers Not To Glorify Smoking, Crime In Films

0

Dr Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director/CEO of the National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB), has emphasised the need for a regulatory body to have access to accurate data to propel the film and TV industry to enviable heights.

He spoke at a stakeholders meeting held at the NFVCB Lagos Zonal office in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday.

Husseini stressed the need for precise data in relation to classification and censorship of films and content produced by skit makers and producers.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry, to discuss ways to enhance the sector’s growth and development.

The executive director noted that it was also important in the classification and censorship of films and content produced by skit makers and producers.

He said, “We should no longer be doing analogue at a time when we should be talking about digital, and we have agreed to digitalise the process.

“I found out that one of the reasons people are bypassing the board and releasing films without classification is because of the tedious process of getting your films on DVD. It is time consuming and the process is cumbersome.

“Therefore, we are committed to providing a service that will be convenient for the filmmakers. They can stay in the comfort of their homes wherever they are, upload their films, pay online, see how the film is being processed, and then print their certificates online.”

Husseini also spoke about plans to ensure that the motion picture sector in Nigeria was smoke-free. He told practitioners and stakeholders to ensure minimal use of tobacco, to mark the World Tobacco Free Day in Nigeria.

The established film critic and member of several film award boards, stressed the need for filmmakers to show responsibility in carrying out their duties.

He noted that if filmmakers were responsible enough to avoid contravening the laws, the NFVCB had no reason to enforce any law, because dragging a stakeholder to court would not aid the outlined objectives of the agency.

He cautioned on contents that glamourise crime, ritual killings, or things that gave the country bad names internationally.
“There will be enforcement on such, because we frown at these things.”

The NFVCB boss also announced plans to embark on a nationwide media literacy, to ensure youths are enlightened about contents not to watch. He also said the objective was to also engage women, and mostly mothers, on how to monitor what their children watched.

On his appointment as the sixth executive director of the board, Shaibu noted that his passion for film and the industry might be responsible for his appointment. He pledged to leave the board better than he met.
