Giannis Antetokounmpo and Lebron James are two of the best players in the NBA.  Every season both players have championship aspirations for their respective teams. Both teams could be on the verge of adding a piece to their championship aspirations for the 2023-24 season, however, they may be in competition with each other over that missing piece.

When news broke out of the Phoenix Suns waiving 12-time All-Star point guard Chris Paul, there were many teams around the league salivating at the thought of adding him to their roster. One such team that has been mentioned as a potential destination is the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks have been considered as one of the best teams in the NBA over the last few seasons, with star players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and Khris Middleton. Highly motivated to bounce back after their stunning first-round exit in this season’s playoffs, CP3 could be the perfect piece to help them reach their goals.

Adding Paul to the Bucks would provide a tremendous boost for the team’s offense, and it could lead to more efficient scoring from their main guys. Furthermore, his leadership abilities have been well-documented over the years, which could be beneficial in helping the younger players develop their games.

Finally, his veteran experience could be invaluable during the playoffs, as it often takes a special kind of poise and understanding to win in the postseason. What’s more, Paul has been regarded highly for his clutch performances late in games and should bring an extra level of confidence to Milwaukee’s closing lineup.

Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have been widely named as a possible landing spot for Chris Paul.  Paul would be choosing between the Lakers or the Bucks rosters as far as who he thinks is more of a championship caliber team.  The Bucks, while they are coming off a disappointing playoff exit, finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA.

Nigerian Stock Market Jumps To 15-year High

0

The Nigerian stock market rose to its highest level since July 2008 on Tuesday, the first day of trading after the suspension of the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

According to a report by Bloomberg, investors are betting on a currency devaluation and sent the main index of the Nigerian Exchange to above 57,437 points, which contrasted with a flat performance for MSCI’s main emerging equity benchmark.

The report stated that this move takes the country’s stocks’ year-to-date gains to 11.8 per cent, almost double the six per cent return on the MSCI index.

It noted that the rally, which followed increased gains on Nigerian dollar bonds on Monday, reflected optimism over the policy signals from the newly elected President, Bola Tinubu.

The head of research at Chapel Hill Denham, Tajudeen Ibrahim, stated, “An improvement in the economy will enhance the performance of companies operating in the market.”

Since resuming office, the new president has scrapped fuel subsidy and recently suspended the apex bank’s governor, Emefiele.

The NGX Banking Index has since risen by 8.5 per cent to 570.64, its biggest advance in more than eight years.

Ibrahim, added, “The exchange rate convergence is expected to lead to improvement in liquidity in the foreign currency market and will increase trading activities for the banks.”

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on the naira to fall towards its market value. The currency has fallen to 474 per dollar, with traders betting on further depreciation.

Rare Roman Mausoleum Unearthed In South London

0

A “completely unique” Roman mausoleum has been discovered by archaeologists in south London.

The remains of the structure at the Liberty of Southwark site in Borough have been described as “extremely rare” and feature preserved floors and walls.

Archaeologists think the site was used as some form of burial ground or tomb for wealthier members of Roman society.

Work on creating a permanent display is planned, says the team behind the find.

The discovery was made at the Liberty of Southwark excavation site

The dig was led by the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) on behalf of Landsec and Transport for London (TfL).

MOLA believes the quality of preservation makes it the most intact Roman mausoleum ever to be discovered in Britain.

Alongside the central mosaic, raised platforms were found and steps on the lowest side were still intact.

Excavators were surprised to find two layers to the site, with another similarly designed mosaic found beneath the first floor. They believe that the building was modified at some point, with the floor raised.

“All signs indicate this was a substantial building,” says MOLA, “perhaps two storeys high.”

Exploring The Flaming Cliffs Of Mongolia

0

The Flaming Cliffs, also known as Bayanzag, is a site that features unique red sand cliffs that are located in the Ömnögovi Province, in the southern part of the State of Mongolia.

Named after the red and orange colors of the cliffs which are much more emphasized at sunset, it was the American paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews who came visited the site in 1920s and gave the name.

As they are definitely glowing at sunset, accentuating the impressively gorgeous and dramatic features of the entire valley, the importance of the Flaming Cliffs comes from the first discoveries of dinosaur eggs, in addition to the specimens of Velociraptor and eutherian mammals.

Still, there were plenty of dinosaur fossils which were uncovered here, and as the site is in the Gobi Desert, it is certainly one of the most important ones in the world for fossil hunters. According to some scientists, the cliffs are estimated to be some 71 to 75 million years old.

Nevertheless, among the discoveries here, there were discovered skeletons of Maniraptorans: Saurornithoides and Ceratopsians: Protoceratops with Ankylosaurids: Pinacosaurus.

All in all, even though located in a more remote part of Mongolia, the Flaming Cliffs are definitely one of the greatest treasures with which this nation in Central Asia can be really proud.

Eritrea has rejoined the East African regional bloc, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), after pulling out 16 years ago.

Information Minister Yemane Meskel posted on social media on Monday that Eritrea had resumed its activity and has taken its seat at the ongoing IGAD summit in neighbouring Djibouti.

He said the country was ready to work toward “peace, stability and regional integration.”

The regional grouping’s executive secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, said he was “delighted to welcome Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Osman Saleh” as he joined the meeting.

Eritrea suspended its membership of the body in 2007 in protest against Ethiopia’s military intervention in Somalia and alleged manipulation of the organization by external forces.

IGAD is made up of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda.

The authoritarian state suspended its IGAD membership in 2007 following a string of disagreements, including over the bloc’s decision to ask Kenya to oversee the resolution of a border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Eritrea broke away from Ethiopia in 1993 and fought a two-year border war with its neighbour that poisoned relations until a peace agreement in 2018.

Following the rapprochement with Addis Ababa, Eritrean troops supported Ethiopian forces during the federal government’s war against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and have been accused by the United States and rights groups of some of the conflict’s worst atrocities.

That war ended with a peace deal signed in November last year that called for the withdrawal of foreign forces, but Asmara was not a party to the agreement and its troops continue to be present in bordering areas of Tigray, according to residents who have accused the soldiers of murder, rape and looting.

The country sits near the bottom of global rankings for press freedom, as well as human rights, civil liberties and economic development.
