Christian Eriksen “In Good Spirits” After Latest Collapse

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is reported to be recovering well and “in good spirits” after collapsing during a friendly match against Ukraine in June 2026.

The game was stopped in the 65th minute in Odense after Eriksen went down on the pitch, but he regained consciousness quickly and was able to walk off before being taken to hospital. Team doctors say he is expected to be discharged soon and return home.

Eriksen has a long medical history with heart issues, having suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 in 2021. After that life-threatening incident, he was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a device that continuously monitors heart rhythm and can deliver a shock if a dangerous abnormal heartbeat is detected.

According to Denmark’s team doctor, the ICD “responded as it should” during the latest incident, helping ensure his condition was quickly stabilised.

Despite the scare, Eriksen was able to return to professional football after his 2021 collapse and has continued playing at top level, with medical clearance in leagues where ICD use is permitted.

Medical experts explain that an ICD works like a constant guardian for the heart, detecting life-threatening rhythm changes and correcting them instantly, often before the patient even fully loses consciousness.

Football authorities and teammates have once again expressed concern, but early updates suggest Eriksen is recovering well and under close medical supervision.
