The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦200 million bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, who is standing trial over alleged cybercrime charges.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Justice Mohammed Umar approved Sowore’s bail application, subject to strict conditions.
The court directed Sowore to provide two sureties as part of the bail requirements. One of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the second must be an individual who owns landed property in Abuja.
Justice Umar further ordered that both sureties must be verified by the prosecution before the bail conditions are considered fulfilled.
The judge also ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.
Following the ruling, the court released Sowore into the custody of his legal team.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until Monday, July 6, when the court is expected to commence hearing Sowore’s defence.
