Imo Politics And The Recent Defections

Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 governorship election in Imo State the political bigwigs in the state have already started making important moves which has created suspense and anxiety in the state as the three major contending parties have produced candidates.

These candidates are Governor Hope Uzodimma of the all Progressives Congress (APC), National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former senator for Imo East, Samuel Anyanwu. The two warring factions of the Labour Party (LP), however produced their own candidates. They are Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu and former lawmaker for Imo North, Senator Athan Anchonu.

In recent development, the State Working Committee (SEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has announced resignation from their positions and party, these members have also announced their new allegiance to the APC

Aside the state chairman, Engr Charles Ugwu; all the other SEC members announced their resignation over what they described as repeated assassination attempts sponsored by the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor said in his statement during an address he gave when leaving the PDP, he also that they are tired of being under a torn umbrella that can no longer shield them from the vagary of political weather.

The state Governor Uzodimma welcomed and commended the defected members for taking a positive and bold step. He urged them to continue to support his administration to deliver quality governance to the people of the state.
