Plateau Files Terrorism Charges Against Suspects Over Jos Killings

The Plateau State Government has initiated terrorism-related charges against five suspects linked to the March 2026 killings in Angwa Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area. In a statement released on Wednesday, authorities confirmed that the suspects were apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) between April 3 and April 10, 2026, and are now facing charges including criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism.

According to the State Attorney General, Philemon Daffi, the accused among them Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (also known as Auwalu Dogo), and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (also known as Yaroro) allegedly collaborated to execute the deadly attack. The charge stated that they acted “contrary to Section 269 and punishable under Section 270 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017.”

It further detailed: “That you… did conspire amongst yourselves to commit offences relating to terrorism when you planned, organised, facilitated, aided, and contributed money to carry out the attack in Angwan Rukuba… which led to the death of over thirty (30) people.”

Another suspect, Adamu Isa Alhassan, is facing additional counts, including culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful arms dealing. Prosecutors allege that he and accomplices “armed yourselves with guns, attacked and killed residents” across parts of Riyom and Jos South local government areas.

The charges come amid renewed efforts by authorities to bring those responsible for violent attacks in Plateau State to justice. The March 28 assault left at least 30 people dead, including children, after suspected attackers stormed communities in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the violence, describing it as a deliberate attempt to destabilise the state. “But I said no! Life must go on. Plateau must move forward by the grace of God. The genocide on the Plateau will come to an end. What is happening is not a farmer-herder conflict. Let me be clear: it is genocide, and I urge the international community to take not,” he said.

President Bola Tinubu, who recently visited the state, met with victims and reassured residents of the government’s commitment to justice. “We are optimistic that ongoing interventions will help restore lasting peace,” he stated, while urging citizens to remain vigilant.
