The Nigeria Police Force has declared a British national, Andrew Wynne, and a Nigerian, Lucky Obiyan, wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.
During a press briefing in Abuja, the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, accused Wynne of establishing a network of sleeper cells with the intent to topple the Tinubu administration and throw the nation into chaos.
“The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of foreign nationals and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrated violence across the country,” Adejobi stated.
He further revealed that, following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended. These suspects reportedly received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilize the country.
“Preliminary findings suggest they orchestrated and funded violent protests, disseminated false information, and engaged in other unlawful activities to create anarchy and justify their illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government,” Adejobi added.
The investigation has identified Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, a British national, as the foreign mercenary who allegedly built a network of sleeper cells aimed at toppling the Tinubu administration. Wynne reportedly rented a space at Labour House in Abuja for an ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and established ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as a cover for his subversive activities.
Adejobi mentioned that Wynne and his local coordinator, Obiyan, had fled the country since the commencement of investigations. He said, “Andrew Wynne and Lucky Ehis Obiyan have been declared wanted, and a global hunt for them has commenced in connection with this investigation.”
Documentary evidence and confessions reportedly show that Wynne provided financial resources and operational guidance to execute the alleged unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria. Wynne allegedly mobilized and deployed billions of naira to his Nigerian collaborators, urging them to incite the public to violently storm police facilities and military barracks. The aim was to instigate a bloodbath that would attract international condemnation of the Nigerian government. These acts are in clear violation of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other relevant laws.
