The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced its commitment to collaborating with British institutions to strengthen transnational education in Nigeria.
During a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from the British Council, led by its Director of Global Network, Charlie Walker, TETFund Executive Secretary Sonny Echono highlighted the organization’s plans to redirect funds from its suspended overseas scholarship program. These funds will now support in-house training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving the capabilities of Nigerian institutions.
Echono emphasized that this collaboration with British institutions will foster knowledge exchange, joint research, and faculty development, ensuring Nigerian academics gain exposure to global best practices and ultimately enhance the country’s educational standards.
In his remarks, Charlie Walker stressed the role of transnational education in bridging knowledge gaps and strengthening global ties between Nigeria and the UK. He noted that the initiative would also encourage cultural exchange, research partnerships, and skill development for Nigerian students and educators.
Walker further highlighted that Transnational Education (TNE) would play a crucial role in internationalizing education in both nations, benefiting young Nigerians and British students alike
