Tinubu Appoints Bianca Ojukwu As Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga. Tuggar stepped down from the role to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, bringing prior experience within the ministry to her new position.

In the same announcement, President Tinubu nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate. Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

A seasoned diplomat, Enikanolaiye has over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service. His career includes serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to Onanuga, the appointments are part of the administration’s broader plan to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, enhance strategic global engagement, and deepen international partnerships.

He added that President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to work diligently to promote Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy, foster regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
