President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday held a private meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, along with a group of lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting followed shortly after the President and the lawmakers observed the Jummah prayer at the State House mosque. Although the gathering was brief and not included in the official schedule, it has attracted attention amid ongoing political consultations within the ruling party.
Also present at the Villa was the Chief Whip of the House, Usman Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency in Gombe State. However, details of the discussions were not disclosed, as officials declined to comment on the issues deliberated.
Sources familiar with the development revealed that the lawmakers accompanied the President back to his office after prayers, though the agenda of the meeting remains unclear. A presidential aide suggested that while the Senate had earlier held a similar session, it is uncertain whether the House members were pursuing the same objectives.
The development comes less than 48 hours after Senate leaders, led by Godswill Akpabio, met with the President in a separate closed-door meeting reportedly linked to early discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
That earlier session was said to include requests for automatic return tickets for lawmakers, a proposal the President declined. Instead, he reaffirmed the role of state governors as key decision-makers in determining party candidates.
The President has since reinforced this stance during a follow-up meeting with governors of the All Progressives Congress, effectively granting them authority over party primaries in their respective states.
With the APC already adjusting its primary election timetable and preparing to begin the sale of nomination forms, these successive meetings point to growing political activity and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
