The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed more than N941 million to approximately 7,000 students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), making the institution the third highest recipient of the loan facility in the country.
This was disclosed by Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, during a technical session with key stakeholders in Plateau State on the Federal Government’s Students Loan Scheme.
Sawyerr urged tertiary institutions to update their student records on the NELFUND portal promptly. He also revealed plans for an upcoming meeting with ICT Directors of beneficiary institutions to address technical challenges in the application process and enhance accessibility for students.
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiative, emphasizing that it would expand access to education and stimulate economic activities within higher institutions across Nigeria.
Confirming the receipt of the N941 million loan disbursement, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS, Professor Tanko Ishaya, encouraged eligible students who have not yet applied to seize the opportunity. He reassured applicants that the initiative is legitimate and not a scam.
