Who Is Mahmoud Isa Yuguda: Nigeria’s New CBN Deputy Governor

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Mahmoud Isa Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The confirmation took place during plenary on Wednesday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, following the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions.

Chairman of the committee, Adetokunbo Abiru, stated that the nominee demonstrated strong competence and experience during the screening process.
“We carefully screened the nominee and found him qualified for the position. He possesses the required experience and knowledge to function effectively as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” Abiru said.

Following the presentation, the Senate adopted the committee’s recommendation and confirmed Yuguda through a voice vote.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded his nomination to the upper chamber for consideration and approval.

Yuguda’s confirmation comes at a crucial time for Nigeria’s economy, as the country faces inflationary pressures, exchange rate volatility, and the need for sustained financial sector reforms. His extensive experience within the Central Bank, international institutions, and capital market regulation is expected to strengthen confidence in the apex bank’s leadership.

With his background in reserve management, regulatory reform, and economic policy, he is well positioned to support policy consistency, enhance financial system stability, and reinforce investor confidence. As Deputy Governor, he will play a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s monetary direction and advancing broader economic objectives under the current administration.
