The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated a National Reconciliation and Peace Committee as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated in Abuja on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, saying it would focus on resolving grievances arising from the ADC’s recent primaries.
Mark explained that the initiative is aimed at ensuring that every member of the party feels recognised and valued, regardless of the outcome of the primaries.
According to him, while elections determine which aspirant emerges as the party’s candidate, they should not determine who remains a valued member of the ADC. He stressed that both successful and unsuccessful aspirants continue to be important assets to the party.
The National Chairman said the committee was established in accordance with Article 91 of the ADC Constitution and reflects the party’s “handshake” philosophy, which seeks to build bridges and promote unity despite differences.
He added that the reconciliation process is particularly important as the ADC prepares for the 2027 elections, with the party seeking to resolve internal disagreements and present a united front.
