Simple ways to ensure your toddler’s car seat is installed correctly

0

Even though a lot of parents know exactly what they need to do to care for their children, in many cases they might not even be aware of the risks they take, particularly when travelling with their children on the roads.

It’s no news that the roads have become more dangerous than they used to be and people from our part of the world have shockingly low usage of child car seats. However, this is a crucial time for parents to ensure that they not only acquire a seat, but the correct one for their child’s life stage, and install it properly every time they drive.

6 tips to ensure your child’s car seat is installed correctly

A car seat is safely installed if it cannot move more than 2.5 cm when tugged at the base of the seats. This only applies to infant and toddler seats and not booster seats. Make sure you follow the correct seatbelt path for the installation orientation:

  • Rear-facing seat belt paths are indicated by blue markings on the seat – blue is for babies.
  • Forward-facing seat belt paths are indicated by red markings on the seat: Red is for rascals.
  • Isofix installations have indicators that turns from red to green if the installation is secure.
  • An Isofix installation needs a third point of contact to finish the installation. This will be either a back-tether strap, load leg, or brace mounted on the car seat.
  • Follow the steps in your instruction manual to the letter for the stage and orientation of the seat you are using.
  • It’s also important that the harness fits correctly: the harness must be at shoulder level or slightly below for rear-facing seats, or at shoulder level or slightly above for forward-facing seats. The harness must fit snug as a hug and you must be able to fit your hand in under the buckle of the harness.

Is it safe to have car seat in front passenger seat?

  • It is much safer to ride in the back, but sometimes you have more kids than seats in the back, so the eldest can ride in the front as a last resort.
  • Airbag warnings are given for rear-facing car seats. If you have to use your rear-facing car seat in the front of your vehicle, make sure you can turn the airbags off. If you cannot turn the airbags off, you simply have to use the car seat in the back. With forward-facing car seats and airbags, it gets complicated. You can install these seats on the front seat, but you have to make sure that the child will not be in the way of the airbag when it deploys. A good idea is to put the front passenger seat a little bit back.

Five White House Staffers Fired Over Past Use Of Cannabis.

0

The white house has announced that they’ve recently had to let five former staffers go due to their past history with marijuana while trying to balance federal laws and white house hiring guidelines with the legalization of the plant in many states.

In a tweet released by white house press secretary Jen Psaki, she said “We announced a few weeks ago that the White House had worked with the security service to update the policies to ensure that past marijuana use wouldn’t automatically disqualify staff from serving in the White House,”

She confirmed that the Five staffers, (who had worked in the white house prior to this policy)that were no longer in the employ of the white house had lost their jobs to the policy which was supposed to ensure that their jobs would be secure.

People familiar with the situation have confirmed that dozens of White House staffers had been asked to resign, been suspended, asked or placed in a remote work program because of past marijuana use. The extent/severity of their usage or whether or not it was used as a measuring yard for their current situation remains unknown.

After what was described as “intensive consultation with security officials” and the personnel security division, a decision was reached to waive a requirement for potential appointees in the Executive Office of the President to be eligible for top-secret clearance only on a case-by-case-basis.

Officials directly involved have said that a waiver would only be granted to those who had used marijuana on a “limited” basis and who are in positions that do not ultimately require a security clearance.

Diary Of Computer Village: Technology Market, Biggest I.T Hub In West Africa- Analysis

0

With some people as laptop mechanics, I.T support providers to SMEs as well as large Organisations and traders; for over two decades, computer village, a technology cluster in the Ikeja area of Lagos state south west Nigeria, has served the technology product needs of Nigeria and west Africa by extension.

Computer village is a highly patronised market for a wide range of technology products, ranging from phones, laptops and other gadgets. it is also the hub for product parts and repairs of gadget. several people work and make a living at computer village. it is presently situated in the Ikeja axis of Lagos, Nigeria.

Computer village” houses over 3,000 information technology (IT) SMEs. here, in a technology community to match anywhere on the continent, hundreds of people like Alaba Davis who is a university graduate I.T expert makes a living from trading all sorts of I.T gadgets.

global system for mobile GSM technology came into Nigeria in 2001 and soon transformed the country. it also transformed the artisan-ridden area, quickly evolving it into a hub for software downloads, memory cards, batteries and unlocking of mobile phones.

The community’s apprentice culture has been key to the steady growth of the market. within it, shop owners train young men and women in whatever they deal in – whether, software, battery repair, used phone trading, and so on. trainees can “graduate” once they have shown a clear grasp of what they have been taught, and often go on to set up their own businesses and train others.

Just as, there are genuine business going on in computer village some miscreants and undesirable elements parade in the guise of sales persons or sellers, ready to defraud buyers; however there are some caveat to observe.

Government’s proposed relocation of computer village raises dust

In 2019,  the Lagos state government’s decision to move the market from Ikeja to an ICT park in Katangowa a sub-urban area in the state, was greeted with mixed reactions; being in the heart of the city is one of the strategic appeals of computer village, as it is supported by strong transport links and commercial activity.

According to government announcement, primary reasons for the proposed relocation include environmental degradation, housing stock deficit and traffic congestion plaguing the Ikeja axis.

for a market which sprung up on its own, without any involvement from government, this raises a number of questions:

Is the “computer village” more of a concept than a geographical location?

If it is more of a concept, could relocating to a new and unfamiliar location affect its popularity?

Other issues that sprung up over the years also was the government’s direct involvement in the leadership role of computer village.

Computer Village traders protest against iyaloja installation

The then Executive Governor of Lagos state Akinwunmi Ambode’s intervention led hundreds of traders from computer village to protest against the planned installation of Iyaloja and Babaloja by the state government for the market.

The protesters argued that computer village was an international market and does not need the imposition of Iyaoloja or Babaloja.

They insisted the earlier practice of electing the market leadership by the traders should be allowed to continue; adding the market was not a regular foodstuff market and does not need such practice that exists in foodstuff markets across the state.

But Folashade Tinubu -Ojo the Iyaloja of Nigeria, Daugther of popular politician bola Tinubu, disagrees insisting that every commodity market must have a leadership.

Many say that the installation of Iyaloja will undermine the hub because there was no relationship between technology and the practice that exists in foodstuff markets; the case is since been investigated by the state government.

Another question that comes to mind is what does the future hold for this technology hub?

Despite decline in overall GDP which is monetary value of goods and services made in the country as a result of diminishing economic activities in 2020

National bureau of statistics, reports shows, the information and communications technology (ICT) sector contributed 17.83 per cent to Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2020, performing much better than the previous quarter and the same quarter of last year.

Following the strategic policy directions of the federal government which includes the inclusion of digital economy, no doubt the I.T or ICT sector play a huge role in revitalizing the Nigerian economy.

Computer village is the number one location for trading and repairing I.T accessories; and no matter the location, or who the leaders are, many Nigerians believe it has gained a reputation of its own, being the most lucrative technology market and the biggest I.T hub in West Africa.

Kenya Certificate Examinations: Candidates Warned Against Cheating As Tests Kick Off

0

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations kicked off Monday with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) warning candidates against any form of malpractice.

The exams, which are normally done at the end of the year, are coming five months later after the 2020 tests were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fears of cheating have been raised, with face masks being a new challenge as cases of impersonation have been reported in the past.

Education CS George Magoha last week said some candidates intended to use the masks to cheat by using them as ‘mwakenya’, a piece of paper with crucial notes that is squeezed and shared in the exam room.

He directed centre managers, supervisors and invigilators to ensure candidates remove their masks before entering exam rooms for identification, and singled out Isebania, Migori and Kisii as “the headquarters of cheating”.

The examinations come amid apprehension by some parents that the candidates might not have prepared adequately having been away from school for a long period.

But Prof Magoha allayed the concerns, saying the exams will be administered and marked “with a human face” and that candidates will not be disadvantaged.

Due to the ongoing rains, the ministry has requested a comprehensive weather forecast from the weatherman to ensure better planning.

Twitter last week said it would seek public input on when and how it should ban world leaders, saying it was reviewing policy and considering whether the leaders should be held to the same rules as other users.

Nigeria’s Vice President Says Buhari Administration Supports Growth Of Entertainment Industry

0

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has said the Muhammadu Buhari administration recognises the strategic importance of the entertainment and creative sector in growing the economy.

Osinbajo said due to this, the administration has, in the past few years, introduced several initiatives to harness the abundant potentials in the country.

The vice president stated this over the weekend in a message delivered at the opening of the Ogidi Studios, a Lagos-based world-class creative complex, hosting recording, film production, animation, and writing studios, owned by the Temple Company.

In his opening address, Osinbajo mentioned that the Federal Government’s handed over the control of the National Theatre to the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bankers’ Committee.

According to him, the Bankers’ Committee has already committed to an investment of N25 billion as initial funding for the development of the Nigeria Creative Centre at the National Theatre, Lagos.

“The sector will receive support from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Creative Industry Funds Initiative, an initiative that gives financial support to the technology and creative sector at single-digit interest rates.

“The Bank of Industry in collaboration with the National Council for Arts and Culture also has an N300m loan package for the creative sector, the package provides the funds to the sector at single-digit interest rates with a tenor of four to five years.”

Speaking about the gains of consistent and deliberate efforts by the Buhari administration over the years, the vice president noted that the sector and the country are now better positioned to benefit from the entire value chain.
