Stakeholders Recommend Curriculum Review For Colleges Of Education

1

The Executive secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of education, Paulinus Chijoke Okwelle, has expressed concern over the dwindling enrolment figures of candidates into Nigeria certificate in education programmes in the country.

He urged the joint admissions and matriculation board (jamb) to lower the entry requirements, including accepting a pass in mathematics and English language as per-requisite for admissions to attract more candidates to enroll for NCE programmes.

He said efforts must be made by relevant agencies, including jamb, to put in place necessary collaborations to boost the fortunes of NCE programes.

As part of the remedial measures, Okwelle urged jamb to devise separate and realistic entry requirements for colleges of education as against that of degree-awarding institutions, to boost enrollment.

He noted that uniformed entry requirements to tertiary institutions, have adversely affected enrollment into NCE programes.

He also proposed that admission requirements into NCE should allow for pass in mathematics for candidates seeking admissions into arts and humanities, and pass in English language for those seeking admissions into sciences, vocational and technical-based courses.

Ucl: Harry Kane Speaks On Tottenham’s Champions League Exit

Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, has warned his teammates that they have ‘no option’ but to focus on a renewed push for a top-four position after their UEFA Champions League exit.

Kane was unable to save Tottenham as they drew goalless against AC Milan in the Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie on Wednesday.

Tottenham crashed out of the Champions League on a 1-0 aggregate defeat, having lost the first leg at San Siro.

“We play Forest on Saturday and hopefully we can score a couple of goals and have a big push before the end of the season,” Kane told the club’s website.

“There is no option. You know it has been a tough week, for the fans especially, and we just need top four. It is the only thing we can play for. We did it last year. We had a big push, we’ve to keep fighting and see where we can go.”

He added, “We gave everything, we left all our energy and heart on the pitch. Over the two legs if we’re brutally honest, we can’t say we deserved to win it, it was equal in both games, and it came down to a decisive goal.

“That is where we are at the moment, we have got to be more effective in the opposition final third. We are getting into good positions but not just quite taking control of that.”

Excitement Builds In Saudi Arabia Ahead Messi’s Third Visit

0

Saudi excitement at the possibility of football superstar Lionel Messi joining the nation’s Pro League swelled on Thursday after it was announced he would visit the kingdom for a third time in less than a year later this month.

The Argentine, who completed a glittering career resume last year by lifting the World Cup in Qatar, will visit for a holiday, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khatib said.

“I am happy to welcome our Tourism Ambassador … and his family and friends this month to enjoy our most beautiful tourism destinations, connect with our people and enjoy unique experiences!” Al Khatib said on Twitter.

The news came hours before the exit of Messi’s French club Paris St Germain from the European Champions League on Wednesday.

The nation appointed Messi as its tourism ambassador last year, and he visited Jeddah in May, before returning in January to play a friendly match with PSG against a team of Saudi League stars, when he faced great rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s deal with Saudi club Al Nassr sealed last year widely reported to be worth more than €200 million euros over two and half years — led to rumours of a renewed rivalry with Messi in the Saudi League, after local media reported Al Hilal and Al Ittihad’s interest in signing the world champion.

The Saudi Sport website reported on Wednesday that Al Hilal had already made him a “huge offer” to join once his contract with PSG ends in June.

Al Ittihad fans chanted Messi’s name in a local match on Friday, and club president Anmar Al Haeli referred to a Messi deal in a video last week, saying “God willing. The deal needs time and arrangement.”
