Court Grants Former Kaduna Governor El-Rufai ₦100 Million Bail

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million following his arraignment.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who delivered the ruling, attached several conditions that must be fulfilled before the former governor can perfect his bail.

According to the court, El-Rufai must provide one surety in like sum, with the surety required to reside in either Maitama or Asokoro areas of Abuja.

The court also directed that the surety must submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.

In addition, the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide proof of salary payments for at least three months. The evidence must be backed by a letter from the manager of a bank within the court’s jurisdiction.

The court further ordered the surety to swear to an affidavit of means, sign a bail bond and submit a recent passport photograph to the court registry.

“As part of the bail conditions, El-Rufai is to deposit all valid international passports with the court registry.”

Justice Abdulmalik also instructed that a verification letter from the surety’s department be submitted alongside a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.

The judge further ordered the former governor to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register pending the conclusion of the case.

The court warned that failure to comply with any of the conditions would result in the automatic revocation of the bail.

Additionally, El-Rufai was directed to submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.

Nasir El-Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023.
