The Kaduna State High Court has postponed its ruling on the bail application filed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026.
According to reports, Justice Darius Khobo adjourned the matter following proceedings in the ongoing case, where the former governor is facing multiple charges related to alleged financial crimes and abuse of office brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Speaking after the session, counsel to the former governor, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated postponements, describing them as “politically motivated.”
El-Rufai was present in court on Tuesday, arriving around 9 a.m. in a convoy accompanied by operatives of the ICPC and the Department of State Services. Security agencies also restricted movement within the court premises as proceedings took place.
Supporters of the former governor gathered outside the courtroom amid heightened security.
The case has now been adjourned to the first week of June 2026 for a ruling on the bail application.
The latest delay follows earlier concerns raised by El-Rufai, who alleged a “fresh plot” to implicate him in criminal activities and obstruct his release on bail.
He further warned of what he described as “malicious orchestrations” aimed at prolonging his detention.
The former governor also referenced an incident on February 12, 2026, when he claimed there were plans to arrest him upon his arrival at Abuja Airport from Cairo, describing the episode as “the beginning of a troubling pattern.”
The court had initially scheduled April 21 for the bail ruling after hearing arguments from both sides before shifting the date to June.
More details are expected as the case progresses.
