The Federal Government has officially opened applications for the 2025/2026 in-country scholarship scheme targeted at engineering and related disciplines in Nigerian universities.
The programme, managed by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), commenced on Monday, April 20, 2026, and will run until Friday, May 29, 2026.
This initiative is designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in oil and gas–related fields, with the aim of strengthening local expertise and building capacity within Nigeria’s energy sector.
Interested applicants are required to submit their entries within the six-week application window through the official PTDF portal: https://scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng
How To Apply (Step-by-Step)
The PTDF has outlined a clear application process that candidates must follow carefully:
Step 1: Create an Account
Applicants should visit the PTDF portal and register by providing their personal details. A confirmation email will be sent with instructions to set up login credentials.
Step 2: Log In to the Portal
Using the registered email and password, candidates can access their application dashboard.
Step 3: Verify NIN
Applicants must verify their National Identification Number (NIN) before proceeding. PTDF advises against repeated attempts in case of failure, recommending the use of support channels to resolve issues.
Step 4: Accept Disclaimer and Terms
Candidates are required to review and accept the terms and conditions. Failure to accept will automatically terminate the application process.
Step 5: Complete the Application Form
All sections of the form must be filled accurately, ensuring uploaded files meet the required format.
Step 6: Select Course and Institution
Applicants are to choose their preferred universities and courses (first, second, and third options). Postgraduate candidates must also upload a statement of purpose (MSc) or research proposal (PhD).
Step 7: Upload Required Documents
Mandatory documents include academic certificates, birth certificate, and local government identification. Files must typically be in PDF format and not exceed 300KB.
Step 8: Add Additional Credentials
Candidates may include professional memberships or publications where applicable, within specified limits.
Step 9: Review Application
Applicants should carefully check all details to ensure accuracy before submission.
Step 10: Final Submission
Once submitted, applications cannot be edited. PTDF advises candidates to confirm all information before completing this step.
The scholarship supports approved courses within Nigerian universities connected to the oil and gas industry and related sectors.
According to the PTDF, the programme is part of broader efforts to develop human capital, reduce reliance on foreign expertise, and strengthen institutional capacity within the country.
The in-country scheme is separate from the overseas scholarship programme and focuses on supporting education within Nigeria. Selected candidates typically receive tuition support, stipends, and learning resources, with awards granted based on merit and alignment with national development priorities.
