The latest ₦100 increase comes just three days after a price reduction, raising concerns over rising energy costs for Nigerian businesses.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased its diesel price to ₦1,800 per litre, reversing an earlier reduction that briefly brought relief to businesses and petroleum marketers across Nigeria.

The new price, which took effect on Saturday, October 10, 2026, represents a ₦100 increase from the previous gantry price of ₦1,700 per litre.
The development comes amid fluctuations in global crude oil prices and growing concerns about the cost of petroleum products in Nigeria.
Dangote Diesel Price Rises After Earlier Reduction
The latest Dangote diesel price adjustment follows a reduction announced on October 7, when the refinery lowered its Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) price from ₦1,780 to ₦1,700 per litre.
Three days later, the refinery reversed the downward trend, increasing the gantry price by approximately 5.9%.
According to reports, the refinery communicated the new pricing arrangement to its customers through its commercial operations department.
Customers were instructed to return their existing loading authorisations for repricing, while new volume contracts would be issued under the revised pricing structure.
The refinery did not provide a specific explanation for the latest increase in the reported notice.
Diesel Prices Differ Across Nigerian Depots
Despite the latest increase, Dangote Refinery’s diesel price remained below quotations from several independent depot operators.
Market reports indicated that Pivot, African Terminal and Integrated were offering diesel at approximately ₦1,905 per litre.
This placed Dangote Refinery’s new gantry price ₦105 below those reported depot rates.
However, wholesale diesel prices vary among suppliers, while the final amount paid by consumers depends on transportation, distribution and retailers’ margins.
In Abuja and surrounding areas, retail diesel prices were reportedly between ₦1,960 and ₦1,980 per litre before the latest adjustment.
Further increases at retail outlets will depend on whether marketers pass additional purchasing costs to customers.
How Higher Diesel Prices Could Affect Nigerian Businesses
The latest increase could place additional pressure on businesses that depend on diesel-powered generators, particularly in areas where electricity supply remains unreliable.
Manufacturers, telecommunications operators, logistics companies and commercial transport providers rely on diesel for various operations.
Higher fuel costs can increase production expenses, transportation charges and the overall cost of delivering goods and services.
Telecommunications operators could also face additional financial pressure because diesel generators are widely used to support network infrastructure.
However, the extent of any increase in consumer prices or service charges will depend on individual businesses and their ability to absorb the additional costs.
Global Oil Prices Add Pressure to Fuel Costs
The latest adjustment comes amid volatility in global petroleum markets.
Crude oil prices, exchange rates, import costs and domestic supply conditions all influence the cost of refined petroleum products.
Changes in international energy prices can affect local market expectations and the cost of replacing petroleum stocks.
However, no specific connection between the latest crude oil movements and Dangote Refinery’s October 10 price decision has been officially established.
What the New Diesel Price Means for Nigerians
With the Dangote diesel price now at ₦1,800 per litre at the refinery’s gantry, businesses and petroleum marketers will be watching for further changes in depot and retail prices.
The latest adjustment highlights how quickly fuel prices can change, even after reductions that initially appear to offer consumers relief.
For Nigerian businesses already managing high operating expenses, the potential impact of higher diesel costs will remain a concern in the coming weeks.
