The Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC) has unveiled its timetable for the 2027 general election primaries and announced the commencement of sales for expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants seeking elective offices.
In a statement released on Tuesday and jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Moses Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the party disclosed that sales of expression of interest forms would begin on May 13 and end on May 18, 2026.
According to the party, screening and interviews for aspirants are scheduled to hold between May 19 and May 21, 2026.
The timetable indicated that only aspirants who successfully scale through the screening process would qualify to purchase nomination forms.
The party also advised all aspirants to attend the screening exercise with the required credentials and supporting documents.
The NDC stated that sales of nomination forms would commence immediately after the screening exercise, running from May 21 to May 23, while completed forms must be submitted on or before May 25, 2026.
The party added that appeals arising from the screening process would be handled between May 25 and May 26, while primary elections for different elective positions are expected to take place on May 27 and May 28.
According to the timetable, the party’s presidential primary election will hold in Abuja on May 29, 2026.
The NDC further explained that aspirants for state houses of assembly positions would undergo screening in their respective states, while screening for presidential and national assembly aspirants would take place at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
It also noted that governorship primaries would be conducted at the local government level.
The party said all aspirants would be expected to sign an undertaking in line with its guidelines and code of conduct.
The NDC assured members and aspirants of “a transparent, inclusive, and democratic process” throughout the sale of forms and conduct of the primaries.
The party also announced plans to adopt the “open secret ballot” system during its primaries to ensure “credibility, fairness, and internal democracy”.
According to the approved fee structure, aspirants for state houses of assembly positions will pay N1 million for expression of interest forms and N1.5 million for nomination forms.
House of Representatives aspirants are expected to pay N2 million for expression of interest forms and N4 million for nomination forms.
For Senate aspirants, the fees were fixed at N3 million for expression of interest and N5 million for nomination forms.
Governorship aspirants will pay N10 million for expression of interest forms and N20 million for nomination forms.
The party also announced that presidential aspirants would pay N20 million for expression of interest forms and N40 million for nomination forms, bringing the total cost to N60 million.
The NDC added that female aspirants would enjoy a 50 per cent discount on all forms, while persons living with disabilities would pay only 25 per cent of the approved fees across all categories.
