Akpabio Declares Jimoh Ibrahim’s Senate Seat Vacant

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant following the appointment of Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday, explaining that the vacancy arose due to Ibrahim’s new diplomatic role.

He also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a bye-election within 30 days to fill the vacant seat, in line with existing laws.

In addition, the Senate President instructed the Clerk to the National Assembly to formally transmit the resolution of the Senate to INEC for immediate action.
