NDC Extends Deadline For 2027 Aspirants As Candidate Screening Begins

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced an extension of the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms by aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the new deadline was moved to Sunday, May 24.

According to the party, the extension applies to aspirants contesting for positions in the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship elections. However, the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for presidential aspirants has officially closed.

The statement further revealed that the screening process for aspirants who have already purchased and completed their Expression of Interest Forms commenced today and will run until Tuesday, May 26.

The party also disclosed that the collection and submission of nomination forms for aspirants who successfully pass the screening process would begin on Wednesday, May 20, and close on Tuesday, May 26.

The NDC urged all aspirants to strictly adhere to the updated timetable, warning that there would be no further extension after the new deadline.

Aspirants were instructed to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews at designated venues with the required documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or declarations of age, four recent passport photographs, voter identification cards, NDC membership cards and copies of their curriculum vitae.

The party added that all submitted documents must be provided in six copies each for the Screening Committee.

According to the statement, the screening exercise will assess aspirants based on several criteria, including the wishes of the electorate, local considerations, competence, leadership capacity and character.

The NDC also noted that its affirmative action policy for women, youths and persons living with disabilities would be considered during the screening process.

While encouraging aspirants to embrace consensus-building, the party emphasised that only candidates cleared by the Screening Committee would be allowed to purchase nomination forms.
