A major political shake-up has emerged from Plateau State after the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries, with incumbent lawmaker Yusuf Gagdi losing his bid for re-election.
Gagdi, who currently represents the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was defeated by fellow APC aspirant John Tonshinen during Saturday’s primary election.
According to the official results, Tonshinen secured 299,968 votes to clinch the party’s ticket, while Gagdi polled 5,849 votes. Another contender, Hopar Gopbia, received five votes.
The outcome of the exercise was announced by the APC electoral committee chaired by Daspan Ishaya, who oversaw the primaries across Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam Local Government Areas.
The result triggered celebrations among supporters of Tonshinen, who described the victory as a significant turning point in the political landscape of the constituency.
