Former Ondo Governor Olusegun Mimiko Defects To APC

Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), months after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mimiko, who served as governor of Ondo State from 2009 to 2017, formally announced his defection on Thursday at the APC Ward 7 Secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area.

The former governor had earlier resigned from the PDP in April before confirming his move to the ruling party.

Speaking during the event, Mimiko said his decision to join the APC was motivated by his commitment to contributing to the political, economic and social development of Nigeria. He also stated that he intends to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Despite acknowledging the economic difficulties currently facing Nigerians, Mimiko expressed confidence in the Tinubu administration’s policies and programmes, describing them as necessary steps toward long-term national growth and stability.

Welcoming the former governor into the APC, Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described Mimiko’s defection as a major boost for the party in the state.

Babatunde commended Mimiko for his leadership experience and contributions to the development of Ondo State and the country at large, adding that both the party leadership and the state governor were pleased to receive him into the APC.
